Welcome to Odelia Farms! We are located in Troy, Illinois, just east of St. Louis, “Gateway to the West.” Suri alpacas are known for their soft, fine, and lustrous fiber. Imported from South America, these animals are easy on the land, easy to care for, and retain their value over time. Their peaceful nature, provides for a healthy lifestyle filled with hours of quality family time; feeding, showing and caring for your alpacas. If you have ever considered a new career or retirement business, then alpacas may be for you. The nature of alpaca farming is slow growing due to the gestation period of an alpaca. While you are growing your herd, you can use that time to learn how to care for and improve the quality of your herd. As your herd grows, you can benefit from the tax advantages of owning a farming operation, and become more acquainted with the industry. When purchasing your first alpacas from us, you can be assured that we are dedicated to providing you with the support and mentoring new farmers will need to become successful in this industry. You will also want to ensure that your herd has some of the best genetic lines in the industry, and over the years we have been doing just that, breeding to the industry’s top herd sires. We are passionate about our alpacas and seeing their fiber turned into beautiful finished products.
Spending a day on an alpaca farm ~ Priceless!
Our Herd
As both a juvenile and a yearling, Shadowland’s Black Lace did very well in the show ring. Lacy comes from the great genetic lineage of Fruzane Noir. Last year we decided to breed Lacy to the infamous MacGyver’s Balboa. Lacy’s first cria, Balboa’s Bailey, is just a beautiful little boy. Even as the youngest in both classes, he won reserve champion at the 2009 MOPACA Invitational show and, placed 3rd out of 14 at the 2009 Indiana Invitational. Odelia’s Snowy River, of Snowmass Lightning Locks won reserve championship at the 2008 IAOBA show last spring, 1st at the Mid America show in Topeka, Kansas and a 1st at the 2009 MOPACA invitational. Silver Ray’s Premier of APS sired six beautiful crias this year, from medium fawn to true black. Rayson has proven that he not only throws incredible confirmation but that he will also throw a range of colors. Each new addition has helped us come a little closer to our vision of alpacas with incredibly soft, lustrous fiber. If you are even the slightest bit interested in learning about alpacas, come out and spend time watching them in the field. It will be time well spent. We have listed several packages on our blog page to offer you a way to purchase a small herd that is easy on the wallet. We believe you will like what you see!
Our Breeding Lines
Our alpacas have bloodlines from well known names such as Uribe, Fruzane Noir, Baron, Inca Hoots, Peach Boy, Snowmass, Silver Bullet, Rousseau, Kahuna and MacGyver. Again, this year we have bred our girls to well known herdsires, in hopes of breeding quality crias next spring. Most of our alpacas are first and second generation offspring from these fine quality males. These blood lines have a history of consistently producing beautiful alpacas with lustrous & silky fiber with correct confirmation.
Our Herdsires
We are offering a summer special for breeding to Silver Ray's Premier of APS. Book your breeding to Rayson and receive 2 breedings for the price of one. We guarantee not only a live birth, but also color! You won't be disappointed when you see this striking young male. With an even temperament and gentle disposition, Rayson is a perfect gentleman. As described by Judge Wade Gease, his luster is evident even on the tips of his fleece. Rayson has that cool handle we try so hard to breed into each alpaca. Even shorn he is just beautiful!
This year we are excited to offer Balboa’s Bailey for stud services. If you are looking for correct confirmation, luster, color, and fineness in your fleece, check out Bailey! As an introductory promotion, we are offering to breed 3 females for $2500 and you can match them up to either herdsire. Bailey will be available late spring to early summer for breeding. Ask for the histograms on any of our herdsires. We are happy to provide you with the information you need to make an informed decision about your breeding choice.
